We’ve all seen the sign “Detour Ahead”. Usually it comes at the most inopportune times – like when we are late for a meeting or in a hurry to pick up the kids. Rarely do we see a detour as a blessing. Most of us probably see it as an inconvenience at best and punishment at worst.
When God said to Abraham that He would “bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you”, (Gen. 12:12) He was establishing an everlasting covenant with His people Israel. This everlasting covenant means that we should indeed be very careful as to how we treat God’s Chosen People.
Have you ever met a fake person? Not fun, huh? It’s hard to take them seriously and one usually cannot count on what they say. Their words are often filled with flattery and their motives seem suspicious.
In less than a month the baby boy that I held in my arms just a few short years ago will be married. And while I am so happy for him and excited about his future, I have also become very reflective about this moment.
